The big day is looming

Our last day at work is looming, and with it our last payday for a while…now there’s a scary thought!

Of course, we’ve decided to live with less, but actually taking that step and making it a reality is a whole different thing again!

Sure, we’ve cut down our possessions, but it’s the little things that will make the difference… like our (twice) daily coffee habit… that’s a luxury we should probably cut… Or eating out regularly, whether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner. We will probably have to change the way we shop for groceries as well, and generally be a bit more conscious of our spending.

I suspect we’re not even aware of all of our spending habits that we will need to curtail. It could be a steep learning curve. I have dozens of spreadsheets to try to prepare us but I suspect no amount of spreadsheets will prepare us for the reality, and we’ll learn as we go.

Having said that, we’re so excited to be starting this next chapter of our lives, we really can’t wait. I’m sure that enthusiasm alone will make it easy to adjust as we learn to live within our new budget, and as we prioritise fuel over coffee.

We can’t wait to get on the open road! We finish work this week, and we’re spending the festive season with family. In January we probably have enough chores to keep us in the UK for a while longer so it will be a few weeks before we get to go travelling properly. So between now and then, we can start getting used to our new budget, get our chores done and our life set up to support our travelling, and get ready to camp in the British winter before the fun can start and we are on a train/ferry to mainland Europe!
