It’s been 4 weeks since…

You read that right! 4 weeks! 4 loooooong weeks without Rex! 4 weeks since we were on the road properly. 4 weeks since we brought Rex to the garage for the dreaded Fiat recall. 4 weeks of waiting on a heat exchanger and an EGR pipe.

While it wasn’t what we wanted to do, it wasn’t all bad either. We got ourselves a Caddy; a micro-camper to do short road trips. We also developed a logo and had some t-shirts made for our travels. We went house-hunting again and are yet again going through the buying process, hoping to complete in April. While Rex was in the garage, he had his service and habitation checks done, and his insurance is done for another year.

Being house-bound was tough when all we wanted to do was travel! But we managed to satisfy our wandering feet and beat cabin-fever with some great short trips!

Firstly, we visited the Camping, Caravan & Motorhome show at the NEC at the end of February. We saw lots of great vans but nothing that we would trade our Rex in for. We also got lots of great camping ideas, and we managed to get some bits that we will need for when we start work at Canterbury.

We had a lovely day out at the Witterings. Beautiful beaches in the winter sun! It’s one of my favourite places near Portsmouth. We also enjoyed days out in Southsea, walking along the beach. You can walk there every day, yet no two walks are ever the same. Southsea really is a vibrant little place, with great coffee to be had too!

As winter rolled back in with the Beast from the East, we travelled to London for a few days in the West End in the snow. We saw Les Miserables (for the umpteenth time, we love it!) and Aladdin. We stayed in the most rubbish hotel we’ve ever stayed in and we missed Rex very much!

Shortly after our trip to London, Caddy came into our life and we decided to take him straight to Holland for a road trip! It was great to spend time with family there, and watching the nieces play football was the best! We also had some great trips to Leiden, Kinderdijk en Gouda. We found some great aires (details on our facebook page) and really enjoyed seeing the sights!

Caddy did great, but as we stayed with family, we hadn’t properly tried him out for camping. Cue a trip to the Lake District! Our timing wasn’t entirely perfect as our trip coincided with ‘The Beast from the East pt.2’. Camping in sub-zero temperatures with plenty of snow, yet without heating or electric hook up was perhaps not the best idea but we did quite enjoy it! Caddy will be great fun for short adventures when we’re on site in Canterbury.

So although it’s been 4 long weeks, we certainly haven’t been sitting still. It’s been really great to catch up with family and friends, to share stories and have a few drinks, watch the girls play football.

Hopefully Rex will be back with us soon, and we can get a few weeks in France before we start work at Canterbury.
