A Soggy tour so far…
Since we’ve left the UK, the weather has mostly not been very kind to us and our tour so far has been a rather soggy one… We would love to find some sun but it looks like we’d have to travel quite far, quite fast to find it.
Our vaguely planned route of Northern Spain, the Picos, then south along the Portuguese coast is looking incredibly wet for some time to come, so it is time for us to rethink our route. Last year we travelled south along the Spanish Mediterranean coast which was lovely, but we don’t really want to do the same again this year.
So we have come up with a few options:
- Stick to the plan and get very very wet and don’t see much of the places we visit
- Travel to Madrid and head west into Portugal, towards Lisbon and south from there. There will likely be quite a bit of snow heading towards Madrid and towards Portugal, but then we might find sun although it’s not guaranteed.
- Travel to Madrid and carry on south from there, then slowly travel along the Mediterranean coast north. We skipped Murcia and Alicante (and everything in between) last year so this would be new ground and a good chance of better weather.
- Travel east from Pamplona to Zaragoza or east from Madrid and simply travel up and down the Mediterranean coast.
Unsurprisingly, we’re struggling to make a decision because we want to see certain parts of Spain and Portugal, but as I write this whilst sitting inside in Pamplona, there doesn’t seem much point if the weather is too miserable to explore, or even simply to go out and have fun. I suspect we will make our decision once we get to Madrid. Fingers crossed we will find a dry spell soon.
For information, the app we use to track weather information like this is called Windy. It’s free to download (Google play store and Apple Store) and although I didn’t find it very intuitive to use, once I’d looked through all the menu options and played around with it a bit, I now can’t imagine travelling without it.
Hi foolks, when you travelling the Picos there is a great campsite in Potez. It’s a nice place to spent some days! Have fun!
That sounds perfect! Hopefully we’ll get there some time soon. Right now there is quite a lot of snow in the Picos…
