New Careers
Yesterday, we arrived at Chertsey Caravanning & Camping Club site following our little trip to Devon, as today we have our Induction day with the C&CC for our new careers. We’re both excited and curious to find out what the day will be like and what people we will meet.
The day starts at 9:30 so we have an easy start. When we get to the site’s Rec room, several people are there already. There are 15 of us in total, all looking forward to starting jobs as Holiday Site Assistants.
One of the most asked questions is ‘Why are you doing this?’. The answer invariably relates to a change of lifestyle following a busy career or own business, along with a few people who have retired but but who don’t enjoy doing nothing.
We meet a number of people from the C&CC who give a great overview of the club itself and the roles we’ll be doing.
Prior to this weekend, I was a tiny bit worried about us doing this work, as we learned from people in the job, and our work-experience weekend, that there is often trouble between colleagues on-site.
Today allayed my worries a little bit, as we discussed ‘living in a bubble’ on site, things that can go well, things that can go wrong, and what we can do when we have any problems. But more importantly, we talked a lot about good listening skills, to both customers and each other, and keeping an open mind to what others are saying etc. So I’m feeling a bit more hopeful now.
All in all, it was an informative day, covering all the things I’d hoped it would. Now we wait to receive our contracts to find out what site we will be on, and when we will start.
