The Big Reveal for next season

September is an exciting time for Holiday Site Assistants for the Camping & Caravanning Club. It’s the time of year when, all things being well, the contracts for the next summer season are announced. This means that all the assistants that have indicated they’d like to work again next summer, will be told where they will be working, how many hours and how many months.

As Assistants you don’t really get an input into this process so it could be quite a surprise. We were asked what region we would prefer, and any time restrictions we might have. We asked to stay in the South, and we had grand ideas of learning to surf in Cornwall so we asked to go South West. We did have some time restrictions, as we’ve got a wedding in Scotland which means we can’t start very early in the season.

The Club is upping the tension, as if we’re all participants on the X-Factor by having a slight delay to the announcement, but eventually word comes; the email will be out at 1pm on the 20th of September.

Next summer we will be based in Devizes Camping & Caravan Club Site from May through to September. It may not be quite Cornwall, and we won’t learn to surf on the canal next to the campsite, but we’re still over the moon. Devizes is not too far from our old home, so it will be easy to pop back to visit family and friends. It’s a lovely location in a beautiful area with lots to see and do, like wood henge and some ancient villages. There are some good VW festivals in the area too.

The campsite itself is very different to Canterbury, as it doesn’t have ‘Ready Camp’ tents, which are big safari tents used for glamping. There is also no caravan/motorhome storage. There is only 1 facility block. Finally, of course it’s not near the ferries/tunnel, so it will be quite a different experience to work there.

The length of the contract is a bit shorter as well, which we’re very happy about as it means we can get back on the road a bit earlier. Being able to set off a month or so earlier means we can go to Germany and further east perhaps. So we’re excited to start planning a little bit of next year’s travels.

All in all, we’re over the moon and are already looking forward to next season, even if we haven’t quite finished this one yet. We will go visit the site soon to meet the managers and see the site and the town.
